I started with a duct tape form of my head. It was simple and I had done it before, so I wasn’t worried. I had wanted to carry down the mohawk of the mule, so I taped plastic bags to the head to give the varaform something to form on.

I ended up really hating working with the varaform. It didn’t stick together well and was driving me insane. I have never considered withdrawing from a class more than working with the varaform. Would I work with it again? Not unless I absolutely had to and even then I would try and find any other option.

I painted it with a dabbing motion using a paper towel. I have worked with mesh before and didn’t want to risk clogging the holes and making it more difficult to see from. With how the varaform meshed, it did not cover it the best, but I could not paint it without it falling apart more so I took my loses.
I have lost sleep, blood, sweat, and so many tears over this project.
If I did this again I would have tried a heat gun instead of the water or would have worked in a space with actively boiling water as I ran back and forth from the microwave at least a dozen times. I would have also gotten a sponge brush to paint with.
I am not very happy with any of it, to be honest. The best I can say is that it has good visibility, but I’ve done other masks with mesh that had better visibility.
